The Bothy
Two hundred years of stone, two winters of restoration, and one wood burner that never goes out.
[ The story ]
Dear guest,
The first time I saw this place it had no roof, a rowan tree growing through the floor and sheep sheltering in the doorway. My grandfather had walked past it on his way to the hill for fifty years.
It took two winters to bring it back. I kept every stone I could, found oak from a farm in Perthshire, and learned more about lime mortar than any man should know.
I opened it to guests in 2022 because a place this quiet felt wrong to keep to myself. People arrive tired, a little frayed, and leave looking ten years younger. That never gets old.
I live ten minutes down the road. I'll light the fire before you arrive, leave a loaf on the table, and otherwise keep out of your way — unless you'd like a tip on where to find the best view at dawn.
Come as you are. Bring the dog. Stay longer than you planned.
